Swap In, Swap Out: Why Form Factors and Modularization are
so Important in not only the the M2M or IoT World, but your
whole Network
Choosing the right components for a design is often a delicate balancing act, since you
have to weigh the features you want against the need to deliver a competitive price
point. This is particularly true in the Internet of Things (IoT), since devices often present
a demanding set of requirements. Many IoT devices operate in difficult industrial
environments, rely on battery or solar power, and are deployed in the field for years at
a time.
At the same time, you should assume that your design will evolve, whether it’s adding
support for a new cellular specification, like LPWA or LTE-M, integrating a new wireless
technology, like Bluetooth 5, or servicing a new region or market.
With the right components in place, it’s easier to build a solid product platform that’s
also easy to modify when you need to. The right components can also save time and
simplify design-in, for faster time to market and a lower overall cost, while giving you a
competitive advantage.
Evaluating components can be a complex process, with detailed comparisons of
operating parameters and feature lists, but it’s important to add one more item to the
list of considerations – form factor. As it turns out, a component’s physical size, shape,
pin configuration, and mounting requirements can have a big impact on the design, in
terms of flexibility, performance and overall cost. Experience is needed.
Cellular and Satellite
We at NetMaxCo have partnered with the most
ubiquitous of communications companies.
Such a Deutsche Telekom or T-Mobile, AT&T as
Lucent, VIA Satellite as Excede and Hughes as
Hughes Networking Service. These telecoms
and communication Giants give us the ability
to implement a truly redundant networking
service.
Unlimited
We see through the eyes of unlimited
potential. No boundaries or stagnation. New
borns look back at us with the innocences of
hope and love. As they grow, knowledge
becomes wisdom… and so we take our cue
from them. Stay young and be able to learn is
our motto. If something new comes along, we
embrace it. Keeping our mind open.
Cost and ROI
Return on Investment (ROI) is the benefit to an
investor resulting from an investment of some
resource. A high ROI means the investment
gains compare favorably to investment cost. As
a performance measure, ROI is used to
evaluate the efficiency of an investment or to
compare the efficiency of a number of
different investments. In purely economic
terms, it is one way of considering profits in
relation to capital invested.
